Bayview Village is often compared to downtown Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood. With its posh boutique stores, serene neighbourhood feel and endless array of exquisite condominiums, its easy to see why that comparison is often made. However, Bayview Village stands out on its own with its own definition of fine living, boasting characteristics and amenities different from other neighbourhoods in the city.
Bayview Village is a neighbourhood that has characteristics that gives it an edge over other neighbourhoods.
- Easily Accessible: The neighbourhood has access to three TTC subway stations along sheppard (Bayview, Bessarion and Leslie), has bus routes along Bayview and Leslie, is close to the Oriole GO rail station and is right next to the 401, Toronto’s major commuter highway.
- Endless Shopping: Bayview Village is definitely the crème de la crème of shopping centres, but residents of the neighbourhood are very close to major shopping outlets including IKEA, Canadian Tire and Shoppers Drug Mart.
- Medical Services: North York General Hospital is a short drive or TTC ride away (can even be walked to), with many clinics and labs lining Sheppard Avenue.
- Diverse Resources: Resident in the neighbourhood have a great selection of amenities, including a YMCA located at Bayview & Sheppard, multiple parks, multiple banks and gas stations.
The neighbourhood is filled with endless options for residents, covering everything from shopping to transportation. You pretty much never have to leave uptown to get anything.
With easy access to transit and amenities, and great housing options, the neighbourhood attracts a mix of families and single working professionals. As seen in the pie chart, gathered from a social study conducted in 2011, we note that there is a significant seniors population, 17.6% greater than other communities in Toronto on average. Many developers have understood this and have created properties catering to their needs. For example: Amica by The Daniels Group.
A large chunk of the population are working professionals, taking advantage of the easily accessible transit services or the 401 to commute to work downtown or other parts of Ontario. We see a rapid growth of condos surrounding the subway vicinity, all throughout the Bayview Village neighbourhood along Sheppard Avenue East.
The community is rapidly developing into a condo heaven. Developers such as The Daniels Group, Shane Baghai and Concord are heavily investing in the neighbourhood.
In recent years we have seen many new developments. Concord Park Place, located near Sheppard and Leslie, is a developing community within the Bayview Village neighbourhood. A few exciting projects within this community include Discovery II and Tango 2, both placing residents in a great setting with major amenities walking distance from the property.
The Daniels Group is now adding to its New York Condos neighbourhood with NY2 Condominiums and NY Place. Other projects include The Bayview and recently finished Merci Le Condominium. All the above projects are located near pretty much every possible amenity, from gas stations to the YMCA.
Bayview Village Shopping Centre
The iconic centre of the Bayview Village neighbourhood is the Bayview Village Shopping Centre. Built in 1963, the 440,000-square-foot space has over 110 stores. Originally built as an “open air mall” – a collection of stores with no roof – the place was roofed up in 1977 when a movie theatre was added to the space. Since then, it has continued to evolve, staying competitive with other major major shopping centres.
To differentiate itself from other major shopping outlets, Bayview Village Shopping Centre is housed with high-end boutique stores that are not found anywhere else in Toronto. In addition, it features some larger stores including a Loblaws, Chapters Indigo, LCBO and recently opened Pusateri’s.
