William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute is a semestered secondary school located in the Dublin Heights neighbourhood of Toronto, just east of Downsview. Originally known as Southview Collegiate, students were given the task of renaming the school under one of eight notable Canadians. At the end, William Lyon Mackenzie – first Mayor of Toronto – was selected.
With a capacity of just over 1,100 students, this TDSB school is located just north of Downsview subway station, providing easy transportation access to students, especially those who live a distance away and rely on public transit. The school offers a wide range of speciality programs, including a Gifted Program and Advanced Placement program. It is currently ranked 23 out of 718 Ontario schools and third out of all TDSB schools by the Fraser Institute.
