Our winters are long but when spring finally comes, it is imperative to get out there and spend time outside – condo dwellers included!

There’s no need to sacrifice the backyard experience while living in a condo or apartment; treat your outdoor balcony or terrace as an extension of your indoor space. Furniture for small spaces is readily available these days at nominal prices. So what’s on the must-have list this year? Integrate some colourful cushions, some greenery, mood lighting and you’re set for some new balcony decor!

Here are some ideas and inspirations for your space in the sky.

If you have space like this great rooftop deck (same place as above photo), add a teak dining set and take your dining outside. I love the addition of the mirror on the back wall – it’s a beautiful way to extend the visual depth of the area.

The company Greenscreen produces fantatic options for wall gardens, fences and planters. Not only for public spaces, you can take this idea and include a screen for the plants to grow in planters. Maintenance is required with our harsh winters, but how fabulous is it to have a wall of green on your rooftop? It’s worth it.

Screens are applied on walls and the rest is up to mother nature

You can add greenery vertically with products such as this screening from Greenscreen. Climbing vines can give you a great amount of greenery by allowing plants to grow vertically.

I love these teeny led lights, they sparkle and add a glow to the area. Wrap them around railings, architectural features, planters etc.

Colourful, patterned pillows are the easiest way to add a shot of style to your outdoors…make it colourful.

This sectional set from Pottery Barn is slim enough to fit on a small balcony….love it!
