Front Door…The ‘Window to your Home’
I love Front Doors…whether I am travelling or driving around town in my car, I am always ready to take a photograph of a fabulous front door.
In Europe, there is no shortage of fantastic doors, all shapes and sizes, colours, designs and styles. Very inspiring!
Your front door is the expression of your home’s architecture, your style, your home’s interior design.
When shopping for a front door, your budget as well as your architectural need are the primary concerns.
You need to consider the Insulation factor, Security, Style, Material, Sun Exposure, Construction needs such as style of lock ( Standard or Mortise), hinge needs and more. You need to consult with a reputable dealer who will lead you down the right path.

This door is in Paris, the building is hundreds of years old..however, the design is clean, simple and very 'contemporary'
When you decide what kind of door you need, you have to consider the material, wood? ( cherry, oak, mahogany, steele, fiberglass) the thickness 35mm, 45mm, ( standard sizes) 51mm, 57 mm ( upgraded sizes), you need to consider the finish to make sure it will withstand the elements.
I gotta say, fiberglass doors have improved tremendously. You can find fiberglass doors which will last up to 20 years looking brand new, in a wood grain finish, but with the absence of wood.

This 'Portone' door is from Sunrise window and door...it is solid, it is, 51 - 57 mm, it looks just like wood and will last decades.

A single door gets more 'bones' with architectural detailing which is normally reserved for the interior. This makes is so much more substantial and stately.

This is a front door with 'sidelites'...when you have the space, it is a nice way to make your door appear larger and get more light into your interior.
Door Hardware will give you the opportunity to dress up your door with functional and aesthetic products to give your door that personal touch.

What a great conversation piece...this 'speaker window' is appropriate for a more rustic or country house.

This very traditional design is stately and elegant. Well suited for a more formal home. However, picture this set in a black finish...or polished nickel...a different feeling can be displayed with the finish you choose.

This set is quite contemporary, but the soft lines give it a unique and stylish look, suited for an exotic wood , sleek door.

This rustic set would be great on a door with some wrought iron detailing or the speaker window, perhaps on an oak or mahogany door.

This set has an 'arts and crafts' look...there is truly something for everyone, this set would be great on a cherry door.

I love this one...the polished finish may be harder to maintain, but what an elegant and sophisticated look. This handle would suit a solid painted door in a gorgeous bright red or black.
I took the photo below in Paris..I could not take my eyes off it…this door is about 14 feet high…stunning. Every building wants to have a door which ‘belongs’ to it.

There is a front door for every house...but remember, that door really has to 'suit' the house..it has to express what the house is all about.
