Thus began what has been called the Edwardian Age, a period of unrivalled opulence and wealth, presided over by a monarch in the portly guise of King Edward VII, who loved luxury, pleasure and the company of beautiful woman ( not all of whom were his wife). Which is not to say he wasn’t completely devoted to his stunning consort, Queen Alexandra, to whom Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre on King Street West owes its name.
