THE AMENITIES
When Lanterra's chairman Mark Mandelbaum was looking for an interior designer for his own home, he didn't have to look far. With their trademark classy, chic but comfortable sense of design, munge//leung design associates, had already done outstanding work for Lanterra at both the outstandingly successful Murano and Maple Leaf Square projects. When the time came to hire an interior designer for One Bedford, there was no question who would get the thumbs up. "I think Alessandro is destined to become the most recognized interior designer in Canda" says Mark. For the residential side of their busy design practice, munge//leung design has a singular ambition. That the work be viewed as "timeless" not "trendy." In their ambition to be ultra-hip, they believe too many designers create space that flatter the designer's ego not the client's need for a calm and comforting personal environment. "I have friends who purposefully avoid their condo lobby because the design is so alien and intimidating. I want people to feel they are coming home, not going to a strange place."
At One Bedford, munge//leung's plans for the building's common spaces, like ideas for individual suites, focuses on calming colors, finishes and materials: great, whites, taupes, beiges, with accent pieces that will be both dramatic and subtle. Think of a backlit onyx entrance desk or a two-sided fireplace in the lobby. Think of beautifully veined marble and granite. Think of dark floors and light wall treatments.
